Domestic Relations Attorneys

Serving the Greater Boston area for nearly three decades

 Offices in Watertown |Mattapan |Quincy | Lynn

Few relationships in our lives rival the long-term ties nurtured within a family. Like any relationship, both internal and external forces can affect family dynamics. While marriages, births and adoptions typically have a positive impact, divorce, issues of paternity, domestic violence, child abuse or death can destroy a family’s foundation.

Whether you seek to define the parameters of on up-coming marriage though a pre-nuptial agreement, prepare a legal separation, resolve a domestic conflict or you are faced with the break-down of your marriage, an experienced domestic relations lawyer can protect your rights, and provide legal advice to guide you in making informed decisions.

The lawyers at Alford & Bertrand offer legal services for individuals and families in the area of domestic relations. With expertise derived from many years of experience, our firm regularly assists clients with problems in all aspects of family relationships including, but not limited to:

  • Divorce
  • Separate Support
  • Annulment
  • Child Custody
  • Child/Spousal Support
  • Visitation
  • Division of Marital Assets
  • Debt Allocation
  • Pre-nuptial & Post Nuptial Agreements
  • Marriage Settlement Agreements
  • Adoption
  • Paternity
  • Domestic Violence

Divorce | Dissolution of Marriage

While many domestic relations issues are troubling, divorce is one of the most traumatic. An uncontested divorce may be resolved fairly quickly and without undue stress, however, dissolving a marriage can be complicated, when children, considerable marital assets, or an uncompromising spouse are involved.

In an effort to reduce the numerous conflicts surrounding divorce, Massachusetts has enacted a no-fault divorce law. In no-fault divorce, neither spouse is blamed for the breakdown of the marriage; either spouse can petition the court for a divorce based on irreconcilable differences. The marriage can be terminated whether or not the other spouse agrees to it.

In an uncontested divorce, a couple resolves differences between them and draws up a separation agreement, without court involvement. On the other hand, a contested divorce is brought before a judge to settle any areas in dispute such as child custody, visitation, support and division of debts and assets.

Whether you are contemplating divorce, your spouse has served you with a petition for divorce, or it is your decision to end your marriage, it is crucial to understand the legal and financial ramifications involved. When you turn to Alford & Bertrand for legal help, your lawyer will work with you personally, getting to know you and your unique situation. We will ensure that you understand the legal issues involved in your situation, explain your rights and answer each of your questions.

In the event you are seeking a divorce or need legal representation to resolve other sensitive other domestic relations issues, our lawyers ensure that you have the information you need to make crucial decisions that will affect your family today and over the long term. Our goal is always to achieve the most positive outcome possible, not only for you, but the family as a whole.

For trusted legal counsel concerning private family issues, we invite you to call our law firm at (800) 698-2889 to arrange a confidential consultation. Saturday and evening appointments are available for your convenience.
